Frequently
Asked Questions

what are dental implants? ***

Dental Implant is a permanent solution for tooth loss, but how permanent are they?

The question of the dental implant's lifespan is crucial. You may have heard that a dental implant can last for twenty-five years or more with proper care. This is true, and several factors affect their longevity, including:

1. Adherence to a regular dental maintenance routine, which includes daily flossing, brushing, and biannual dental check-ups.

2. Avoiding habits like chewing hard objects and using teeth to open things.

3. The expertise of the implant-placing dentist, who should be certified and knowledgeable in best practices and monitoring the osseointegration process.

4. Your lifestyle and overall health, such as avoiding smoking.

A dental implant serves as a foundational structure in the jaw to support a tooth replacement. This method involves surgical expertise and cosmetic dental experience. Periodontists specializing in this procedure are in high demand in the milpitas area. The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it gradually fuses with the bone, creating a strong anchor for a dental prosthetic.

What qualities make an ideal candidate for a dental implant?

Patients that require dental implants must have good overall dental health. Some factors in deciding whether a patient is a suitable candidate include:

Bone building materials

Introducing a foreign substance into the body can carry a significant risk of failure. To ensue that implant integrates and bonds strongly with the bone. The dentist may use bone graft material. These are advanced materials that help with osseo integration and builds stronger bone around the implant area.

Dental Implant Procedure

Following the creation of molds for the tooth bridge or denture to fit the patient's bite pattern, a successful fusion of the implant involves five essential steps. Here is a general overview of what each patient can anticipate during a dental implant procedure:

1. Incision

After administering a substantial amount of anesthesia, the dentist makes a deep incision along the gumline's center, directly above the jawbone. The gum tissue is then separated and pulled back to expose the underlying bone. The precise location of the incision is critical to enable the gum tissue to wrap around or cover the implant after insertion.

2. First Drilling

Expertise is vital during the first drilling phase. A highly qualified dentist, such as Dr. Cesar Simon, employs a high-speed drill to create a small hole in the bone. This process requires precision to prevent bone damage or burning, which could also harm the gum tissue.

3. Second Drilling

After creating the initial hole, the dentist continues drilling at a slower speed, using progressively larger drill bits. Once the cavity reaches the optimal size for the implant, drilling is complete. Careful attention is required during this step to minimize heat generation and avoid nerve or cell damage.

4. Dental Implant Placement

The implant is securely screwed into the prepared hole using a pressure-sensitive wrench to prevent over-tightening or undue stress on the surrounding tissue and bone.

5. Cavity Closure

After the implant is securely in place within the bone, the soft gum tissue is carefully repositioned to surround the implant. The decision to either expose the top or cover it entirely depends on the type of prosthetic tooth that will be installed.

***Disclaimer: While dental implants is a popular treatment option for missing tooth, not all patients may be good candidates to recieve dental implants. Schedule a consultation with Dr Simon to see if you are a good candidate for Dental Implants.
